Apartment in the Sky
At Premiere Systems, our collaboration with clients is the cornerstone of our design philosophy. When tasked with creating "the apartment in the sky," our client's vision of classic influences set the stage for a timeless aesthetic befitting Chicago's skyline. Together, we embarked on a journey to craft a space that seamlessly integrates cutting-edge technology with sophisticated design.
From the outset, our focus was on developing a program that aligned with our client's lifestyle while maximizing the spatial qualities of the apartment. Careful consideration was given to circulation, room placement, and size, laying the groundwork for further refinement. Panelized walls emerged as a key design element, breaking down the vertical scale of the space and creating intimate settings for art and relaxation.
Architectural portals, revealed as panelized walls peel back, serve as thresholds between public rooms, adding drama and emphasis to transitions. The use of a black and white color palette pays homage to the iconic silhouettes of Chicago's urban grid, seamlessly integrating the apartment with its surroundings.
Custom details abound, from base and ceiling treatments to hand-hammered door knob designs. Each element unfolds to inform the design of more intimate spaces, such as sleeping areas and studies, creating a cohesive and harmonious living environment.
